Our Flower Girl Becomes A Bride

Few things can make you feel as ancient as attending the wedding of your flower girl, but here we were, thirteen years later, spending a fun weekend in Michigan doing just that. Madeline was agog with everything Bride and loved being included in the bridesmaid lunch, getting a secret preview of The Dress, and even getting assigned the job of handing out  programs. Patrick was nonplussed by all of the hoopla but LOVED the swimming pool at the hotel and playing baseball with the cousins.

Madeline continues to adore Carrington.

Relieved the ceremony is over.

Says it all.

Fun costumes for the photo booth.

Madeline loved the dancing!
Even Patrick hit the dance floor.

Now

And then.

Cousins lineup. Zach is their fourth cousin.

Camp Abracadabra

Technically it was VBS in the morning and Lego camp in the afternoon, but to eight great alums from Abra it was one incredibly fun week. We parents took turns walking the kids from one camp to another, supervising pickup, snack, and swimming at the Old Town pool, and proved without a doubt that it takes a village to survive summer camp.

Diving In to Swim Team

Patrick is on the swim team! We're having so much fun taking him to practices with his buds. He's doing great, swimming on the 'developmental team' this year. First meet is in a week!

Maddle and the Motorcade

Madeline was already thrilled to be staying home thanks to a minor throw up on the way to school. On my way home from Target for saltines and such I noticed that a block of Mt. Vernon Ave was shut down. The secret service was everywhere. I quickly parked and Madeline and I ran up the street to see what was going on. President Obama was in Fireflies restaurant! We grabbed a seat at the counter at Mancinis across the street and watched the 'action' which was a lot of waiting around looking at the press corps and secret service. But then we saw Obama walk out, and he waved as the motorcade drove by. I couldn't believe the set of factors that allowed her and I to be home together on such a big day and see the president from the window of our family hangout. Madeline, who as a native Washingtonian is less impressed by these things, said 'that was fun. Can I go home and watch Frozen?'

Growth Spurt?

...or a tapeworm? It's not even 6 pm and she's eaten two eggs, bacon, fruit, black bean soup, burrito, black beans ( just a bowl, plain mom), snacks at birthday party, birthday cake, broccoli, strawberries, 8 chicken nuggets and no slowdown in sight....

First Base Finesse

Patrick closed out a fun season with the Silverhawks with two amazing plays at first base and a great hit ( a single). All of the coaches and teammates congratulated him, and he had a grin from ear to ear.
